Chapter Markers

Chapter Markers work like chapters in a book, dividing your episode into clear, labeled sections. These markers help listeners navigate your podcast, preview what’s ahead, or skip past spoilers. Buzzsprout makes adding them easy!

Adding Chapter Markers to Your Episodes

Start by clicking on the Add Chapter Markers button within your episode details page.

Chapter Details
If you have a chapter placement, press + New Chapter. The timestamp on the waveform audio will be saved, and you can enter the following details:
  1. Title (required): Keep it short and simple. This is what listeners will see as your chapter marker.
  2. Timestamp (required): The timestamp from your waveform audio will show here, or you can type the desired start time for the chapter.
  3. Image (optional): If you have a specific image that goes along with your chapter, you can add it here.
  4. URL (optional): You can add links associated with each chapter, like sponsor links or referenced information.

Waveform Chapter Editor

If you need help finding your chapters, our waveform editor allows you to search through your episode to find your placements. You'll be able to play your episode to identify timestamps and titles for chapters. Here are some actions you can take with the waveform editor:
  1. Play and pause the episode
  2. Adjust the playback speed
  3. Click through the waveform to jump to a timestamp
  4. Zoom in and out for precise placement

Express Chapter Editor

If you create your chapters outside of Buzzsprout, you might want to use the Express Chapter Editor! Directly type or copy and paste your timestamps, in plain text or as a JSON file.
CleanShot 2026-04-16 at 09.18.02@2x.png At the bottom of the waveform editor, you'll see an "Express Chapter Editor" button. When you click that, you'll be able to select "Text Input" to write out your timestamps or "JSON File" to upload a JSON file. CleanShot 2026-04-16 at 09.13.04@2x.png

Publishing Chapters

Chapter Markers Strategies

Let Cohost AI create your chapters. When you enable Cohost AI, we'll create chapters for you during the upload process. Making the process that much easier!

Edit chapters in the Transcript Editor. With Buzzsprout Transcripts, you'll also be able to edit chapters directly in your transcript. Once you add your chapters, they will show on the right-hand side of your transcript editor, where you can adjust them.

Where will my chapters show? We can guarantee that your chapters will show in Buzzsprout and on your Buzzsprout website. While we can add chapters to your audio file, not all apps and directories will support them, so you might not see them on every listening platform.

More and more platforms are supporting chapters, including Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, Overcast, and Spotify! There are multiple specifications for chapter images; Buzzsprout uses and supports the Podcast Namespace. CleanShot 2025-11-18 at 11.43.35@2x.png
